Privacy policy

Your palace stays on your phone.

Curious Palace helps you learn the countries of the world with a memory palace. This policy explains what the app and this website do with information about you. The short version: your palace stays on your phone. The app sends us an anonymous record of your quiz answers, so we can tell which pictures work, and subscriptions are handled by Apple or Google with RevenueCat. We never ask for your name or email, and we don't sell your data, show ads or track you across other apps.

Who we are

Curious Palace. You can contact us about privacy at admin@curiouspalace.com.

What the app keeps on your phone

To run your course, the app saves the following in its own storage on your device: the names you give to your palace, its places and the objects in them; which country you placed where; your course progress, review schedule, streak and points; and a log of your answers in reviews and tests (up to the last 5,000).
The names of your palace, places and objects never leave your phone. Deleting the app deletes everything it saved on your phone.

Anonymous answer records

Each time you answer a question, the app records which country it was, the kind of question, whether you got it right, whether you used a clue, how long you took to start typing, which country you typed instead (if any), how many days ago you placed it, and the type of building it sits in (home, school, work or other). It also records the version of the app and of the pictures.
These records are sent to our database, hosted by Supabase, with a random code made up by the app when it was installed. The code isn't linked to your name, email, Apple or Google account, phone number or device, so we can't tell who you are from it. We use the records only to find pictures and keywords that aren't working and improve them.
We keep the records for as long as they help improve the course, and no longer than three years. Because they can't be traced to you, we can't pick out or delete one person's records on request.

Subscriptions

Your first days are free with no sign-up. If you subscribe, payment is taken by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play); we never see your card or bank details. To check whether your subscription is active, the app uses RevenueCat, a subscription service. RevenueCat receives your purchase and subscription details, an anonymous app user ID and basic technical information such as your device type, operating system, app version and IP address. RevenueCat's own privacy policy explains how it handles this information.
You can cancel or manage your subscription in your Apple or Google account settings at any time.

New pictures and keywords

The app checks our Supabase storage for updated pictures and keywords and downloads them in the background. Like any download, this shares standard technical details such as your IP address with the host; nothing else is sent.

What we don't collect

The app has no accounts and no sign-in, and it never asks for your name or email. It has no advertising and no tracking across other apps or websites, and it does not ask for your location, contacts, camera, microphone or photos. We don't sell or share your information with anyone other than the services named in this policy.

Hearing country names read aloud

When you tap to hear a country, the app uses your phone's built-in text-to-speech to read the country name and its memory prompt. Only that text is passed to your phone's speech engine, which works under your phone's own settings.

Copying your progress

If you choose to copy your progress or answer log, the app puts it on your phone's clipboard. It only does this when you tap the button, and what you do with it next is up to you.

This website

This website does not use cookies, analytics or advertising, and it has no forms. It is hosted by Cloudflare (Cloudflare Pages). Like any web host, Cloudflare's servers process standard technical details of each visit, such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver the pages and keep the service secure.

Children

Curious Palace is made for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

You can delete the app, and everything it saved on your phone, at any time. Your subscription is managed in your Apple or Google account. If you have a question or request about your privacy, email us at admin@curiouspalace.com.

Changes to this policy

If the app starts to collect or share more information, we will update this policy before that change goes live, and change the date below.
